A modern fairy tale for the whole family
Audience 6+ / target audience 9-12
When everyone in town falls under the spell of charismatic plastic surgeon Doctor Coppelius,
feisty Little Swan must take action to save her sweetheart Franz, before his heart is used to spark life into Coppelia - the ‘perfect’ robot-woman the Doctor has created.
True beauty comes from within, appearances can be deceptive - and true love conquers all.
The central theme of Coppelia - true beauty comes from within - is an important message for young girls and boys, and especially relevant today. Coppelia is a universal tale with a strong female heroine.
The unprecedented combination of live action ballet and animation makes this film unique.
Coppelia was first made into a ballet in 1870, based on two tales by E.T.A. Hoffmann.
Our film is based on Ted Brandsen's acclaimed production for Dutch National Ballet,
with décor designed by Sieb Posthuma.
Concept art by Anna Engels: Erica Horwood as Coppelia
